SONIC
Objective of the test:To determine the integrity of bored
pile/barrette/diaphragm walls/mass concrete structures based on sonic logs
and wave speed measured
Method of testing:Logging the energy and the time the
ultrasonic travels in the concrete between a transmitter and a receiver
emerged in water in tubes already installed in the structures
Standards for the test:According to the specific method
statement of manufactures or following the Engineer's instructions
Steps to be followed for the test:
-
Check the tubes if are full of water
and obstructions
-
Drop both transmitter and receiver to
the end of tubes
-
Turn on the equipment and enter
parameters
-
Test the signal
-
Pull the sensors at constant rate
-
Scan the signal to have graphs
-
Check the graphs and redo the test at
possible defect location
-
Do the same with other pair of tubes
until finished necessary cross sections
-
Move to other piles
Report, which includes:
-
Project name and location
-
The owner, designer, piling contractor
and the tester
-
Tested pile records
-
Summary table of test results
-
Sonic logs and wave speed graphs
against pile depth
-
Conclusion and recommendation for the
defect piles
